OUR TRUSTEES

Our trustees are volunteers who are responsible for the overall control and strategic development of South Bristol Youth.

DENIS BURN

CHAIR

Denis is an engineer by training and worked for several years in the manufacturing industry, followed by careers in consultancy and the education sector. He is a former Master of the Merchant Venturers of Bristol and was the founding chair of Merchants’ Academy. He has a number of public and charitable interests linked to education and culture, including his role as Vice-Chair of Bristol Old Vic. He is the current Chair of the University of Bristol.

JOHN LEE

VICE-CHAIR

John is an HR professional who served on the board of a major plc. He has a deep interest in organisations and what is needed to make them work well. He also has a long interest in the development of young people and been a trustee/chair of a number of youth charities. When he came to Bristol in 2005 he was drawn to the issue of how young people from a disadvantaged background could be helped to realise their potential. He was one of the small team that created South Bristol Youth and has served as Deputy Chair since the charity was formed.

LAURA CHESHAM

Laura joined South Bristol Youth as a trustee in June 2017, but she has been involved since 2013 when South Bristol Youth became a charity. She has seen it grow during this period and is excited about the future and the ways in which it can continue to support young people to allow them to flourish. Laura is a solicitor at a local Bristol law firm and specialises in advising charities on all aspects of their governance and operations. She is passionate about charities and the highly important work that they do for society.

TINA HALLETT CBE

Trustee and Retired Partner (PwC)

Tina Hallett was a Partner with PwC from 1999 to 2018. From 2014 to 2018, she was the Leader of the PwC Government & Public Sector business reporting to a Management Board member. Tina was PwC’s Lead Partner for NAO and specialises in value for money projects and change through people.

Tina is a Chartered Accountant, Prince 2 qualified and holds a BA (Hons) Economics. Tina was a Trustee of a charity for people with severe learning disabilities for 11 years and is a Trustee of Youth United (a charity for uniformed youth clubs).

During her years as Partner, she set up a coaching initiative with the Ministry of Justice which was shortlisted for an Opportunity Now Award. Tina was Chair of the panel of judges for Payroll World. She is an experienced coach and has coached people at SOCA, Met Police, Cabinet Office, HMRC and DWP.

Tina was the inaugural Chair of the PwC award winning women’s network. She is passionate about solving issues around poverty and is linked with Citizens UK, Save the Children, Citizens Advice, Fair by Design and the private sector on this issue, as well as the Global Sustainability Goal.

Tina has been recognised for her services to civil society, to mentoring and to coaching with a CBE in June 2019. Tina is married to a retired naval officer.
