OUR TRUSTEES

Our trustees are volunteers who are responsible for the overall control and strategic development of South Bristol Youth.

DENIS BURN

CHAIR

Denis is an engineer by training and worked for several years in the manufacturing industry, followed by careers in consultancy and the education sector. He is a former Master of the Merchant Venturers of Bristol and was the founding chair of Merchants’ Academy. He has a number of public and charitable interests linked to education and culture, including his role as Vice-Chair of Bristol Old Vic. He is the current Chair of the University of Bristol.

JOHN LEE

VICE-CHAIR

John is an HR professional who served on the board of a major plc. He has a deep interest in organisations and what is needed to make them work well. He also has a long interest in the development of young people and been a trustee/chair of a number of youth charities. When he came to Bristol in 2005 he was drawn to the issue of how young people from a disadvantaged background could be helped to realise their potential. He was one of the small team that created South Bristol Youth and has served as Deputy Chair since the charity was formed.

LAURA CHESHAM

Laura joined South Bristol Youth as a trustee in June 2017, but she has been involved since 2013 when South Bristol Youth became a charity. She has seen it grow during this period and is excited about the future and the ways in which it can continue to support young people to allow them to flourish. Laura is a solicitor at a local Bristol law firm and specialises in advising charities on all aspects of their governance and operations. She is passionate about charities and the highly important work that they do for society.

NICK CLITHEROE

Nick’s passion is making things work using clear and creative thinking and resolving challenges in a sustainable and enterprising way. He completed a management degree at Aston Business School, and then went to work in finance, marketing and operations. More recently he managed businesses in the hospitality, events and fundraising sectors but has focused, in the last five years, on working in the Social Enterprise field. Latterly he has developed a strong understanding of schools and the education sector and is a board member of the Robinswood Multi-Academy trust in Gloucester. He currently works with RIO as a Consultant for the organisation and joined South Bristol Youth as a Trustee in 2017.
