“Surely it is our responsibility to do everything within our power to create a planet that provides a home not just for us, but for all life on Earth.” – Sir David Attenborough

So many people have grown up watching Sir David Attenborough teach and show them the wonderful natural world that everyone lives and depends on. Sadly, recently he has been highlighting some of the destructive elements of human actions.

Every year since 1970 there has been an Earth Day dedicated to bringing the environment to the forefront. Each year, Earth Day Network works to bring together communities around the world in a huge campaign to tackle modern-day environmental problems.

This year’s theme is Restore Our Earth which focuses not only on the need to reduce our impact on the planet as we recover from the effects of Covid-19, but also on how we can play a role in repairing the damage we’ve done. The organisers have produced a toolkit to highlight how together, we have the power to Restore Our Earth.

The planet requires creative thinkers, engineers, planners and people who can think out of the box to come up with new technologies so that humans can live sustainably on the planet and this means opportunities for apprenticeships and jobs are vast. From renewable energy to learning how to look after the soil, from fairer finance to flood defences, Bristol and the south west are home to many of these top green firms.  Why not check out some of these organisations and see if there is an opportunity waiting for you?
